Timeless Design
Inspired by the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh - paragon of the Arts and Crafts movement - Newport Beach, California, designer Gary White, CKD, CBD, CID, created an artful yet practical kitchen for this vintage ranch home. Though the 1970s kitchen was relatively large, it had no breakfast room and the original finishes and appliances were worn out. By adding 200 square feet to the room, White and architect Tom Berger were able to include a breakfast room. To conceal a steel post in the middle of the kitchen, White designed an island flanked by two large columns - one of which hid the unwieldy post. Columns and cabinetry were created out of two tones of alder wood. The countertops consist of two different colors of an engineered stone by Caesarstone. The pleasing symmetry is an illustration of White's core design philosophy. |
